Privacy Policy

This policy covers the Pic N Split mobile app and the picnsplit.com website. We've tried to keep it short and readable. If any of it is unclear, email us at [email protected] and we'll answer.

Information we collect

• Display name and avatar you choose when joining a game. These are shown to other players in your game session.
• Photos you capture during gameplay. Stored on our servers for the duration of the game and retained per the policy below.
• A device identifier for anonymous players so we can reconnect you to your game if your app closes or loses network. Not tied to any real-world identity.
• GPS coordinates of your Phase 1 photos, only if you opt in at capture time. Used solely to provide optional map hints to other players in the same game.
• For signed-in users only: your email address (via Clerk), which we use for account recovery and transactional messages. We do not send marketing email.
• Purchase receipts from Apple or Google when you buy the Pro upgrade. We verify receipts with the respective store to grant the entitlement.

What we do not collect

• We do not access your phone's camera roll or photo library.
• We do not collect contacts, call logs, SMS, or browsing history.
• We do not sell your data to anyone.
• We do not track your location when you're not in an active game, and we do not store GPS from photos where you opted out.

Data retention

• Free games: all photos are deleted from our servers one hour after the game ends. The game's 4-letter code is recycled at the same time.
• Pro games: if any participant is a Pro user, all photos from the game are retained indefinitely so those users can revisit them from their Game History.
• Device identifiers: anonymous JWTs expire 48 hours after your last session.

Third-party services we use

• AWS S3 — photo storage, US region. Subject to AWS's data processing agreement.
• Mapbox — in-app maps for GPS hints. Mapbox may log tile requests; see Mapbox's privacy policy.
• Apple App Store / Google Play Store — process in-app purchases for the Pro upgrade.
• Clerk — handles sign-in for users who create an account.
• Google AdMob — displays a short video ad at the start of Phase 1 and Phase 2 for non-Pro users. AdMob applies its own privacy and consent policies; we do not share additional data with AdMob beyond what's required to render ads.
• PostHog — product analytics. Tracks anonymous events like "session created" and "phase transition" so we can measure reliability and improve the experience. Not used to target ads.

Children

Pic N Split is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information to us, email [email protected] and we'll remove it.

Your choices

• You can leave a game at any time. Your progress in that game is retained so you can rejoin with the same game code before it ends.
• You can delete individual Phase 1 or Phase 2 submissions while the corresponding phase is still active.
• You can opt out of GPS sharing by declining consent the first time you use a map hint.
• To delete your account and associated data, email [email protected]. We'll confirm and remove within 30 days.

Changes

If this policy changes materially we'll note it at the top of this page and update the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after a material change constitutes acceptance of the new policy.
